The Town of Stockbridge has received  requests for records relating to the current collective bargaining negotiations with its highway department employees.  The Town acknowledges that records associated with collective bargaining are public records under the Vermont Public Records Act. However, certain records are exempt from disclosure under 1 V.S.A. § 317(c)(15), which exempts records relating specifically to contract negotiations, including collective bargaining agreements with public employees.

At this time, negotiations are ongoing. Accordingly, the Town is withholding records relating specifically to the active negotiation process, including proposals and related bargaining materials, as disclosure at this stage could interfere with the integrity of the negotiations.

The Town expects that, upon the conclusion of negotiations, records associated with the finalized agreement will be made available consistent with applicable law. The Town will also re-evaluate the status of the records currently withheld at that time.
